Wii Study

Thank you for your interest in my research study.

I, Steven Castellucci and Principal Investigator, am a Graduate Student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a member of the Interactive Systems Research Group @ York University (www.cs.yorku.ca/~isrg).

The goal of this study is to gather average movement times for specific motions involving the Wiimote. If you choose to participate, you will move your Wiimote in linear motions (e.g., vertically, horizontally, and diagonally) and rotational ones (e.g., roll/tilt left and right). Your total estimated participation time is approximately five (5) minutes. There are no evident risks inherent in this study.

Data gathered in this study will be used for a course-related project. If results are favourable, the resulting paper might be submitted to an academic conference. All data collected in this study will remain strictly confidential. You have the right not to answer any questions and/or to withdraw from this study at any time. Should you withdraw, all data generated as a consequence of your participation will be destroyed.

By participating in this study, you agree to the following terms:

1. You are of legal age.
2. You have not previously participated in this study.
3. You grant permission for the data gathered in this study to be used for the academic purposes outlined above.
4. All information that you provide during the study is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
5. You will take appropriate safety precautions during the study, including, but not limited to, correctly using the wrist strap on the Wiimote, and staying at least an arm's length away from people and objects around you. Furthermore, you will not hold York University or any of its employees responsible for any loss, damage, or injury incurred by your participation in this study.
6. You do not suffer from any medical condition that could seriously impair your performance in this study, or, by participating in this study, could pose a risk to your health (e.g., Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Epilepsy, etc.).
