COSC 3213: Communication Networks
Winter 2009
Quizzes
Things that will be on the quizzes:
- Anything (or everything) covered in the previous Monday and Wednesday
lectures.
How to pass the quizzes:
- Show up for class.
- Make notes in class (in your own words).
- Ask questions in class about anything you don't understand.
- Re-read your notes over the weekend.
The quizzes are supposed to be free marks, but they're only free marks if
you make an effort to learn the material.
Midterm and Final Exam
Things that will be on the midterm and final:
- Everything covered in the lectures and lecture notes.
- Everything covered in the quizzes.
- Everything covered in the lab assignments.
- Everything covered in the chapters given in the lecture schedule,
unless I say otherwise.
How to pass the midterm and final (and the course):
- Show up for class, make notes (in your own words), and ask questions
in class about anything that you don't understand.
- Re-read your notes at the end of every week, to pass the quizzes and
to make sure you understand the material.
- Do the lab assignments. They're designed to help you understand the
material.
- Before the midterm and final, redo old quizzes, re-read your notes,
and go over the course plan to see where you need to review material.
Ideally, you'd review test material well in advance, so that by the time
of the "review" lecture before the midterm or final, you know what areas
you need help with. That's what these lectures are for.
How to Get Help
- Ask your friends to review course notes together. This helps a lot.
- Ask questions in class. This also helps a lot, and I'm usually willing
to stay late if questions run overtime.
- Visit me during office hours. If at all possible, contact me by email
first (someone else may already be there at that time), but I'm almost
always available during that timeslot.
The reason I'm here is to try to help you all learn about communications
networks. As long as you're willing to put in a sincere effort, I'm
willing to do whatever is needed to make sure you succeed in learning the
material.
