Postdoctoral Fellowship "Health Risk Assessment for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management"
at York University and Manifold Data Mining Inc.

Posted April 15, 2014

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral position in data mining for behaviour-based chronic disease risk assessment. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to play an important role in an NSERC Collaborative Research and Development (CRD) project on developing an interactive health portal that provides comprehensive risk assessments and recommendation for chronic disease prevention and management, and will join a team of accomplished researchers representing applied mathematics, computer science and health science.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to interact with the team, and be responsible for the health risk assessment model development and analysis, including model concept design, knowledge acquisition from published literature as well as from the datasets available to the team; testing and validating models; and implementing an interactive Web portal that realizes the model. The fellow is also expected to help prepare research proposals to secure additional funding for the project.

The fellowship will be jointly supervised by Dr. Jianhong Wu (Mathematics and Statistics, CDM/YIHR, York University), Dr. Aijun An (Computer Science, York University) and Dr. Zhen Mei (Manifold Data Mining Inc.). This fellow will be working at both York University and Manifold Inc.

The fellowship can start immediately, initially for two years but can be renewed for up to a total of 5 years. The salary/stipend is in the range of $40,000~45,000 per year (including benefits). The salary may be raised after the first/second year if additional funding application for the project is successful.

Applicants should have a PhD degree and significant experience in data mining and statistics. Experience in preventive medicine and manipulating large datasets will be an asset.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae along with complete contact information and some representative research papers, and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Dr. Aijun An at aan@cse.yorku.ca.

Applications will be reviewed immediately, and only short listed applicants will be contacted.
