Important Dates for 1997/98

1997


September 3 - 5, 1997		Orientation Week.  All new students are
				required to attend.


September 8, l997		Fall term Graduate courses begin.
		
				Last day for submission of a thesis prior
				to an oral examination and receipt of a
				recommendation from the Graduate 	
				Progamme Director, for students who
				expect to fulfil all Master's degree 	
				requirements before Fall Convocation	
		

October 1 - 3, 1997		Rosh Hashanah - No classes will be 	
				scheduled on the evening prior to, nor
				during the day of, these religious holy
				days.  However, University offices will be
				open normal hours.


September 29, l997		For students who expect fo fulfil all 	
				Master's degree requirements before the
				Fall Convocation, this is the last possible
				date for an oral exam and for the Faculty of
				Graduate Studies to receive through 	
				Graduate Programme Directors, the 	
				favourable decision of the thesis/disseration
				examining committee.


October 11, 1997		Yom Kippur - No classes will be scheduled
				on the evening prior to, nor during the day
				of, this religious holy day. However,
				University offices will be open normal
				hours.


October 3,  1997		Last day to enrol in  fall term 	
				courses.  Please discuss your enrolment
				with your Supervisor/Academic 	
				Advisor prior to completing appropriate
				form with the Graduate Programme 	
				Assistant.



October 6, 1997			Three unbound copies of each thesis
				in final acceptable form must be delivered
				to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (Room
				N912 Ross Bldg.).


October 13, l997		Thanksgiving - University is closed


November 1997			Convocation.  Date  to be advised.
							
		
November 7,  1997		Last day to withdraw from a Fall term
				course without receiving a grade at the
				discretion of the Programme
				Director.  Please discuss your enrolment
				with your Supervisor/Academic 	
				Advisor prior to completing appropriate
				form with the Graduate Programme 	
				Assistant.


December 1997			Thesis Supervision.
				Students should commence 		
				discussions with faculty members on the
				matter of  Thesis Supervision.  Please refer
				to the document entitled Master's 	
				Programme Progress Guidelines.

December 7, 1997		Last regular day of Fall term courses.

Saturday, December 6, l997	Women's Remembrance Day - No classes held
				between 11:30 a.m.and 1:30 p.m.


December 8, 1997		Fall term examinations begin.
				Last day to submit term work.


December 22, 1997		Last day of examinations.


December 23 - January 4th, 1998	University closed.

1998

January 5, l998			Winter term Graduate courses begin.


January 30, l998		Last day to enrol in winter term
				courses.  Please follow procedure as for
				Fall term.


February 16- 22, 1998		Reading Week


March 6,  1998			Last day to withdraw from a winter
				term course.  Refer to fall term 	
				procedures.


Wednesday April  15, l998	Thesis Supervision.  Students are to
				advise the Graduate Programme office of
				the arrangement concluded for Thesis
				Supervision.

				M.Sc Progress Report #1 is due in the
				Graduate Programme office.  Refer to the
				document entitled Master's Programme
				Progress Guideline provided during 	
				September 1996 Orientation Week.
				The Thesis Supervisor as well as the
				second member of the Thesis
				Supervisory Committee must be advised on
				Progress Report #1.

August 14, l998			M.Sc Progress Report #2 is due in the
				Graduate Programme Office together with a
				preliminary draft copy of the students
				thesis.

January 15, 1999		Thesis Proposal In order graduate 		
				within the time frame of twenty months, 	
				students are advised to submit a copy of their
				thesis proposal, (duly approved by their 	
				respective Supervisory Committee ) to the 	
				Graduate Programme office.  This proposal 	
				will then be forwarded to the Faculty of 	
				Graduate Studies for their approval.  Please 	
				note that the Oral Examination can take place 	
				no earlier than three (3) months from the date
				of approval of this thesis by FGS.
