CSE student Hassan Masoom wins Murray G. Ross award for 2008

Hassan Masoom (BASc Hons. Computer Engineering 2008) is this year's winner of the coveted, university-wide Murray G. Ross Award. Named after York  University s founding president, this award is presented annually to a  graduating student of York University for scholarship and outstanding participation in undergraduate student life.

Hassan is one of the top undergraduate students within Computer Science and Engineering and, in recent years, has received many accolades for his academic achievements including the FSE Dean’s honour roll on various occasions, York University Continuing Student Scholarship (2004 and 2005), the Allen S. Berg Prize in Excellence in Engineering (2005), and the Award for the Best Engineering Design Project (2006).

Hassan has also made major contributions at national and international forums related to science and engineering. In 2006, he was one of the two students selected by York University to participate in the London International Youth Science Forum comprising of 300 undergraduate students representing different parts of the world. In addition, he has represented York at the 2008 Ontario Engineering Competition and various meetings of the Toronto Chapter of the Society of the Engineers without Borders. In 2007-08, Hassan was selected by Research in Motion (RIM) as its student ambassador on York's campus.

 The letter of nomination commends Hassan as an outstanding ambassador for York, both for the major nominations he has made to national and international science and engineering forums, as well as his active involvement in Faculty and University outreach activities.

In addition to the Murray G. Ross Award, Hassan also received the FSE Silver Medal at the 2008 convocation ceremony.
