The Procedure

1. The undergraduate department does not handle admission to York University. Please contact the Admission Office, (416) 736-5000. Their www page is the following. http://www.yorku.ca/admissio/undergrad.asp
• You will be required to submit to the Office of Admissions all of your official transcripts and detailed course descriptions/syllabi for studies completed outside of Canada and the United States before an admission decision can be made.
• If you are offered admission to the University, your first step is to contact the appropriate Faculty Advising Office to make an advising and enrolment appointment. The assessment of your eligibility for advanced standing will begin only after you have made this appointment.
• A statement of advanced standing will be mailed to you and will also be provided to your advising office in time for your scheduled appointment.
2. At your faculty advising appointment you will get general advice about faculty requirements you need to meet considering the advanced standing received from the admissions office. They prepare a file for you which the COSC undergraduate office can use in advising you.
3. Once you have had an appointment with the faculty advising office, you may make an appointment to see the Computer Science undergraduate coordinator about advice as to which courses you should take. At that meeting you need to take the York University letter saying how many credits you have been granted and a set of forms indicating the courses for which you have been granted advanced standing.

5. We do not have the resources to evaluate job experience and industrial courses for advanced standing credit. We can only look at academic backgrounds.

How long will it take to get a second degree

That depends upon which COSC courses you get transfer credit (have done equivalent work at another university). Due to the number of students wanting computer science courses and the strict prerequisite structure we restrict without exception the number of courses student may take in any one term.

1000-level COSC courses in first year -- maximum 1 per term, 2 per year

2000-level COSC courses in second year -- maximum 2 per term, 4 per year

3000-level COSC courses in third year -- maximum 3 per term (summer 2), 6 per year

4000-level COSC courses in fourth year -- maximum 3 per term (summer 2), 6 per year

If you have no computer science courses completed, it will take you 3 years to get an ordinary degree and 4 years to get an honours degree. This is independent of how many other courses you have done in other disciplines.

If you have many transfer credits -- advanced standing for many courses -- you will be taking only 1, 2 or 3 compuer science courses per term (depending upon year level). During this period you will be a part time student, unless you take additional courses outside of computer science.

Evening courses

Not all courses in computer science evening sections; especially at the 3000- and 4000-level have. To complete a degree programme, it will be necessary to take some courses during day.
