What's new?

Wednesday, September 3: Welcome to the course! Here are some pointers for the first week:
  • Please have a quick look at the course webpage for general information about the course. Follow and read all links.

  • The labs for the course do start in the first week. Go to your scheduled lab. Since the startup is always a bit messy, the work for the first two weeks has been combined. If, for some reason, you do not make your first lab session, the TAs will also be there to explain things in the second week. But beware: don't get behind.

  • You will need a prism/computer science computer account for this course (not your Yorku account). Go to the junior lab in the computer science and engineering building (at the south end), sit in front of any terminal and type "newuser" and follow instructions. For more details, see guided tour.

  • Enjoy!
Wednesday, September 10: Welcome to the second week.
  • Hope everyone is settling in. You should have your CSE accounts, be attending the labs, and doing the programming examples now. Let your teaching assistants (TA's) or instructors know if you are having trouble.

  • If you are a student with disabilities or other special needs such that you need more time or accommodations for tests and exams, you will need to establish that with York ( Office for Persons with Disabilites @ York University). Let your instructor know as soon as possible as we are setting up the lab test schedule and environment.

  • General Announcement: York participates in the annual ACM Programming Contest. The regionals are 1 November 2008. See York Programming Contests or the Facebook group York University: ACM Programming Contest for more information. Our first pratise competition is this Friday at 1pm at the Labs in CSE Building. All are welcome and invited to participate.

Monday, September 15:
  • eCheck due dates

Each eCheck is due at the latest by 11:59pm Tuesday of the following week it is assigned (or even later, to give people even more of an opportunity). We want people to do them, so this is a generous schedule; however, you should try to complete each in the week it is assigned, and not put them off to last minute.

    • Weeks #1 & 2 (00A, 01B, & 02B): 23 September.
    • Week #3 (03B): 30 September.
    • Week #4 (04B): 21 October.
    • Week #5 (05B): 21 October.
    • Week #6 (06B): 28 October.
    • Week #8 (08B): ...
    • Week #9 (09B): ...
    • Week #11 (11B): ...

Monday, October 6:
  • Final, final deadline on eCheck 03B is 11:59pm 7 Oct 2008. So if you did not already do it, finish it now.

Friday, October 17:
  • Midterm approaches!

    • The labtest part of the midterm will take place in the regular lab sessions (taking place from Wednesday 22 October through Monday 27 October).
    • The written part of the midterm is common for both sections (A & E). It is at 2-4pm on Sunday 26 October in lecture rooms B & C of the Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Building. Students with last/family names starting with A-K should go to lecture hall B. Students with last/family names starting with L-Z should go to lecture hall C.

Thursday, October 23:
