Lectures and Labs

This term, the course has 2 sections:
  • Section A meets once a week on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. in CLH-H.
  • Section E meets three times a week, namely Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. in CB 121.
There are also five lab sections:
  • Lab 01 Mondays 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Lab 02 Thursday 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
  • Lab 03 Thursday 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Lab 04 Wednesday 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Lab 05 Wednesday 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
All lab sessions take place in CSEB 1004. Students must attend the lab session in which they are formally enrolled.

Weekly Schedule

Note: since the first day of classes is a Wednesday and the last is a Tuesday, the thirteen "weeks" listed below run from Wednesday through Tuesday.

Week 1 (Wednesday, September 3 - Tuesday, September 9)

Reading material: Chapter 1 and the guided tour.
Lectures: Chapter 1
Labs: eCheck # 0 (eCheck00A) and eCheck #1 (eCheck01B).

Week 2 (Wednesday, September 10 - Tuesday, September 16)

Reading material: Chapter 2. Continue with the guided tour.
Lectures: Chapter 2.
Labs: eCheck #2 (eCheck02B).

Week 3 (Wednesday, September 17 - Tuesday, September 23)

Reading material: Chapter 3. Complete the guided tour. Students are responsible for knowing this material.
Lectures: Chapter 3.
Labs: eCheck #3 (eCheck03B).

Week 4 (Wednesday, September 24 - Tuesday, September 30)

Rosh Hashanah. No classes/labs from the evening of Monday, September 29 through the evening of Wednesday October 1.

There is no section A Tuesday evening class.

Labtest #1 for both sections in the regular lab times.

Reading material: Chapter 4
Lectures: Section A has no class. Section E covers chapter 4.
Labs: Labtest #1 will be held in the normal lab session.

Week 5 (Wednesday, October 1 - Tuesday, October 7)

Rosh Hashanah. No classes/labs from the evening of Monday, September 29 through the evening of Wednesday October 1.

There is no section E Wednesday class.

There are no Wednesday labs (lab 4 and lab 5).

Reading material: Chapter 5.
Lectures: Section A covers Chapter 4 and Section E starts Chapter 5
Labs: eCheck #4 (eCheck04B) and eCheck #5 (eCheck05B)

Week 6 (Wednesday, October 8 - Tuesday, October 14)

Yom Kippur. No classes/labs from the evening of Wednesday, October 8 through the evening of Thursday October 9.

Thanksgiving. University closed on Monday, October 13.

There is no 2:30 p.m. lab (lab 3) on Thursday, October 9.
There is no 7:00 p.m. lab (lab 2) on Thursday, October 9.
There is no 2:30 p.m. lab (lab 1) on Monday, October 13.
There is no section E class on Monday, October 13.

The only labs that take place are labs 4 and 5 on Wednesday, October 8. (They missed the previous week.)

Reading material: Chapter 6.
Lectures: Section A does chapter 5 and section E finishes chapter 5 and starts Chapter 6.

Week 7 (Wednesday, October 15 - Tuesday, October 21)

Reading material: Chapter 6.
Lectures: Chapter 6.

Week 8 (Wednesday, October 22 - Tuesday, October 28)

The midterm is held during this week.

Reading material: Chapter 7.
Lectures: Chapter 7.
Labs: the labtest part of the midterm.

The labtest part of the midterm will take place in the regular lab sessions (taking place from Wednesday 22 October through Monday 27 October). The written part of the midterm is common for both sections (A & E). It is at 2-4pm on Sunday 26 October in lecture rooms B & C of the Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Building. Students with last/family names starting with A-K should go to lecture hall B. Students with last/family names starting with L-Z should go to lecture hall C.

Week 9 (Wednesday, October 29 - Tuesday, November 4)

Reading material: Chapter 8
Lectures: Chapter 8.
Labs: eCheck #7 (eCheck08B)

Week 10 (Monday, February 2 - Friday, Februry 6)

The course "drop date" has been moved to March 10.

Reading material: Chapter 9 (and 10)
Lectures: Chapter 9. Possibly start chapter 10.
Labs: review material and start eCheck #8 (eCheck09B)

Week 11 (Monday, February 9 - Friday, February 13)

Reading material: Chapter 10. Possibly start chapter 11.
Lectures: Chapter 10. Possibly start chapter 11.
Labs: finish eCheck #8 (eCheck09B) and start eCheck #9 (eCheck11B)

Week 12 (Tuesday, February 17 - Thursday, February 19.)

Monday, February 16 is a holiday (Family Day).
Wednesday, February 18 will run on a Monday schedule including in the lab.
The last class for section A will be on Tuesday, February 17.
The last class for section B will be on Wednesday, February 18.
The Thursday labs will take place as usual.

Final exam (exam period) February 20 through March 3.

Students registed in this course are presumed to be available to write the final examination during this period.
The final exam will be scheduled by the registrar's office (see Examination Schedules).
Students are advised to consult the registrar's office in advance of making other commitments (e.g., holidays, flight bookings, etc).
